In honor of former President Obama, a stretch of road in Los Angeles is renamed Obama Boulevard. The street replaced Rodeo Road, a 3 ½-mile street that runs across a historic African American neighborhood. It also intersects with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

This location punctuates the historic fact that Obama held his first campaign rally in Los Angeles on February 20, 2007, at Rancho Cienega Park & this park sits on Rodeo Road, right across from W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The honor of renaming this road reflects the significance of our first Black President, reminding all us that no aspiration is ever out of reach.

Final approval came last August, 10 years after Obama made history by officially becoming the Democratic Party’s first African-American presidential nominee on August 28, 2008.

Honor. Respect. These are two words which hold high regard for those who wish to aspire to them.

But what does it really mean to honor and respect? And how else can one illustrate these mantras?

One way is to do what the city of Los Angeles did. Another way is to conduct yourself in your every day life with your family & friends that shows honor by respecting their differences.

Different religions, different ways of life, something as simple as different philosophies about food.

Take, for instance, the vegan who won’t eat anything other than something plant-based.  Or the vegetarian who refuses to eat anything involving meat.

Honor. Respect. That’s all ok, right? I mean, who would judge the gluten-free person for NOT wanting celiac disease?

And that’s where we come in: ensuring that our Mindy’s Yummy Sauces is vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and a condiment that EVERYONE can enjoy has been our goal, right from the start.

Honor. Respect.

These admirable qualities show up in many ways and we all have opportunities to practice them everyday.

So, the next time your kid tells you about someone’s life-partner choice that might not align with your own, think about what the city of Los Angeles did…and maybe think of Mindy’s Yummy Sauces.

Who knows, maybe they’ll name a street after our award-winning sauce Sesame, Sesame! (Well, we think Sesame Street already owns that one! 😉)

Happy Saucing!
